IMPHAL, March 5: The Left parties in the State came together for their first ever State-level joint convention held todat at the Gandhi Memorial Hall.

The convention was organised by the recently formed Coordinating Committee of Left parties including Communist Party of India/Manipur, Communist Party of India (M)/Manipur, Revolutionary Socialist Party/Manipur, All India Forward Bloc/Manipur and Communist Party of India (M-L) Liberation/Manipur.

Following a deliberate discussion on the current socio-political and economic situation faced by the people in the State, irrespective of their caste, creed, region ethnicity and religion, the convention resolved to fight the “corrupt Congress” and isolate the “communal and divisive forces” of the BJP functioning under the dictate of the right wing RSS.

The convention also adopted to frame a Left and Democratic Alternative Programme which will pave way for uniting all the progressive people of Manipur for struggle towards achieving and alternative programme.

CPI/Manipur secretary Dr Moirangthem Nara during the convention said that Tripura has no anti-AFSPA crusader like Irom Chanu Sharmila, nevertheless, the draconian Act has been withdrawn from the State.

It is necessary to observed Tripura is under the Left political party who senses the sentiments of the people, he pointed out.

He said the present State government is corrupt.

It is high time for the Left parties with clear agendas to come together and understand each and every community in the State to fight against all ills, he asserted.

During the two years rule of the BJP led NDA in the Centre, the country has witnessed more than hundreds of communal riots, mostly affecting the Muslim community, he claimed.

The Prime Minister of India is a follower of the RSS which is right-wing Hindu, he said.

Dr Nara continued rather than promoting secularism, the BJP government is more inclined towards spreading Hinduism.

In the process of spreading Hinduism, many have been forcibly converted, he added.

Nathuram Godse, who assassinated Mahatma Gandhi regarded as the father of the nation and who strived for unity in the country, was a RSS member, he said and added that the BJP led government is projecting to install statues of Nathuram Godse.

He further lamented that the arrest and assault of JNU Students Union leader Kanheiya Kumar is another example of the government’s Hindu fanaticism.

He further called for unity among the left parties and to bring free and fair election in the State.

Dr Nara also encouraged the parties to join the demand for proportional representation in the State.
