IMPHAL, March 1: Manipur Peoples’ Party today charged the Congress party of being a corrupt party and that as long as it remains in power, there will be only more scandals and corruptions in the State.
MPP president Nongmeikapam Sovakiran levelled the charges against the Congress during a press conference held today at their office.
He also charged the present government to neglecting State issues.
It is time for the people to wake up and fight such a corrupt party for good governance, Sovakiran said.
The High Court of Manipur verdict declaring Congress MLA of Moirang Assembly Constituency M Prithiviraj’s membership as “null and void” is a welcomed step and the right one, he asserted.
The people also need to reject such an individual during elections, he observed.
Citing that Prithiviraj has been disqualified for filing wrong information in his election affidavit, Sovakiran claimed that most Congress MLAs must have given wrong information about their properties and bank accounts in their election affidavits.
Such is the normal conduct of the Congress party, and its members will continue to do so, he claimed.
The MPP president also reacted on the death of an assistant teacher on February 29 in Chandel district and said no one should ever harm the teachers or create problems to their work.
The MPP condoles the death, he said adding that it is surprising to know that designated camps of the NSCN (IM) still exist in Manipur and as to how the government can allow them.
The NSCN IM and the Centre are in talks, however, their agreement don’t extend to Manipur, which the State government need to understand and act accordingly, he added.
