IMPHAL, March 6: Veteran communist leader Moirangthem Ibohal Singh today unveiled a newly erected statue of Pheiroijam Parijat Singh at Hijam Irawat Memorial Park, Chalou situated along the Imphal-Ukhrul Road.
The statue was erected by Pheiroijam Parijat Singh Memorial Trust and was unveiled in the presence of Secretary of Communist Party of India (CPI) Manipur State Council Dr M Nara.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr M Nara observed that the Irawat Park at Chalou will become “inspiration source” place for the future generation.
He said the CPI Manipur State Unit was inspired by Irawats’ visions on progressive development in the State.
The party is firmly committed to translating his influential visions into action, he added.
Nara maintained that the erection of Parijat’s statue within the Irawat Park to establish it as an ‘’inspiration source’’ is the first step taken up by CPI as the party is also considering establishment of a social science institution in the park based on Irawat’s visions.
Lauding the installation of the statue, he said that a new chapter for the CPI Manipur State Council has been opened with the installation.
He went on to say that five left parties in the State have been united and resolved to working together to materialize Irawat’s visions to bring progressive development in the State.
The resolution was adopted during a convention held on March 5 at Gandhi Memorial Hall during which current socio-political and economic situation encountered by the people of the State was discussed at length, he informed.
He sought cooperation and support from all sections of the society towards realizing and materializing Irawat’s visions.
During the programme, shawls were presented to old-aged comrades of Lamlai area.
Pheiroijam Parijat was born on June 17, 1943 at Nongada and expired on March 6, 2015.
He joined CPI in 1965 and became State secretary in 1976, 1989, 1995 and 1998. He served as National Council Member during 1970-2012 and National Executive Member during 2005 -2012.
Parijat was elected as MLA of Lamlai Assembly Constituency in the year 1972, 1974, 1980, 1990, 2002 and 2007 and elevated to Cabinet Minister in the Council of Ministers in the year 1990, 2002 and 2007.
