Proposal on model city submitted to CM

IMPHAL, March 9: The Coordinating Body Khurai in a press release has submitted a proposal to the Chief Minister, O. Ibobi Singh in connection with Imphal City to become a model city.

According to a release of the joint body, it was stated that the most congested area in the daily transport and communication of the people is the portion of the highway from the turning point of Khoyathong up to the area of Electricity Department (MSPDCL, Corporate Office) at Keishampat Junction.

The reason for the congestion is due to the many departmental office buildings, private shops and Government Quarters and the gathering of people in and around the areas as there are many offices, it said. The beauty of the city can only be exposed after the government buildings and area occupied by the Army has been shifted to a better location with the exception of the educational institutions in the western side of the Highway, opposite to Kangla moat, it said.

The vacated areas can be utilized for the construction of a modernized emergency city hospital, as well as for making a green park, shopping and marketing centre based on the traditional value and a parking area for private vehicles. The body has appealed to consider the proposal site as it will help in the making of a model city, it said.
