IMPHAL, March 20: Former Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad(ABVP) Professor Milan Marathe today emphasized on the need for controlling leftist ideology infusing in the varsities of the country while delivering a lecture on “Nation first (The Truth of JNU) held at Hotel Classic, Imphal.

The former of BJP’s student wing said “What happened in Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) campus and arrest of its Students’ Union President is the manifestation of anti-national ideology infection.

The professor said that he appreciates the ‘free thinking culture of JNU campus’ but on many occasions, anti-national activities are going inside the premises of the varsity since the middle of 1990s. “This needs to be checked,” he added.

He reminded that the incident of February 9 in which “anti-national” slogans were raised during a cultural evening event on the campus, was just one of such occasions.

Milind alleged that wherever leftists are active such incidents happen.

The incumbent JNU Students’ Union president Kanhaiya Kumar is a member of All India Students Federation (AISF), the student’s wing of Communist Party of India (CPI), India’s second-largest Left party, the professor alleged and said that “I don’t blame him (Kanhaiya Kumar); he is just a puppet of the party which he belongs.”

JNU is a unique university that encourages an atmosphere of free thinking and innovative ideas; inter living of faculty and students, and high quality education at low cost. But these three ideologies indirectly promote western values and culture, said the main speaker of the meeting.

“JNU is suffering from infection and need to control,” Milind quoted a judgment of High Court regarding the infamous JNU row. While highlighting the need for a stringent Sedition Law in every independent country, Milind said the Article 19(1) (a) of the Constitution of India guarantees all its citizen the right to freedom of speech and expression under reasonable restrictions.

It doesn’t empower the citizen the freedom to do against the nation. In other word, citizen of this country is free for any kind of movements until it touches of someone’s nose. Professor M Dhaneshwor Singh, Department of Chemistry, Manipur University, who attended at the meeting as Chief Guest, also condemned the leftist hegemony in JNU campus and he opined to control the leftist virus inside the university.
