Intensive Polio Vaccination Phase III launched in State

IMPHAL, April 1: Director Health Service, Manipur Dr O Ibomcha Singh today launched the Mission Indradhanush, an Intensive Polio Vaccination programme at the premises of Family Welfare Department under the banner ‘Launching of IPV Induction in RI & MI and sensitisation workshop III-Phase MI’.

Infants were also vaccinated during the programme.

Delivering the keynote address, State nodal officer Dr Nandakishore mentioned that the Mission Indradhanush is being launched today throughout the nation.

He said the programme will subsequently be conducted in the other districts of the State to immunise infants against polio.

Dr Nandakishore said immunisation against the polio has to continue in the country even though India has been officially declared Polio-free as it is still prevalent in several parts of the world including in some neighbouring countries.

He said the vaccination programme which is being initiated by the government of India will reach every corner of the country and reports will be maintained digitally.

He urged the concerned authorities to update the details of their respective zones and districts in time.

National Rural Health Mission Director Dr O Ibomcha Singh who was the chief guest of the function after officially launching the Routine Immunization (RI) of IPV said that though India is free from Polio, immunization against it has to continue as it is still prevalent in some neighbouring countries and other parts of the world.

He further appealed to all concerned authorities of the immunisation programme to properly utilise the drugs and other facilities provided.

Dr Ibomcha also appealed to those handling the drugs to take proper care of the ‘cold chain’ by maintaining the temperature of the drugs.

He continued that those who will be involved in the carrying out the mission in the State will face many challenges especially while working in the remote areas of the State in terms of lack of power supply and deplorable road conditions.

Director Family Welfare Service Dr K Rajo was also present as functional president of the launching programme.
