IMPHAL, May 23: Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam today said the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Manipur Unit is trying to bring President’s Rule in the State for their own sake which will only result in breaking up the State.
The deputy Chief Minister was speaking at the flag-hoisting ceremony of Congress candidate of Ward No 12 Ahanthem (o) Usharani in Keishamthong constituency.
He said, people should be cautious of such a party as the BJP and must not bring them to power. BJP can only criticise the Congress, as they are bereft of welfare ideas.
Rubbishing all the corruption charges hurled by the BJP towards the incumbent Congress government, he said the charges are all baseless and the Congress can only laugh at such charges.
Under the Congress, several developmental works have been undertaken in both the hills and the valley; however, a few scrupulous individuals have incited the innocent people to raise voices claiming no development in the hill areas, Gaikhangam observed.
Citing several development works taken up in various sectors including power supply, education, health, connectivity in the hills he said, some groups under a few leaders continue to charge the government of neglecting them.
All such charges are baseless and the people should not believe them, he said citing that such charges are spread only by those with vested interest.
Amidst several difficulties, the Congress government is trying to provide basic amenities in the State, he claimed.
Gaikhangam also urged the people against launching destructive forms of agitations like bandhs and blockades and to instead try to solve all issues amicably.
He said bandhs and blockades would only affect normal lives and hinders development.
Commerce and Industries minister Gonvindas Konthoujam said the Congress believes in “deeds and not in words.”
The minister who also holds the Sericulture, Veterinary and Animal Husbandry portfolio said Imphal is developing through the efforts of the Congress government.
On the present political changes in Assam, he said the BJP might have won the recent Assam Legislative Assembly election, but the BJP wave will never be able to reach Manipur.
