IMPHAL, May 25: A team of BJYM Manipur Pradesh has extended assistance to relief camps at flood affected Kiyamgei Muslim and Urup area yesterday.

The team was led by the president of the mandal, Oinam Malesh, vice-presidents Y Gopendro and K Robindro, IT cell convenor, Tarzan, party leader from Kiyamgei Md Nasiruddin and Dr Y Antash Khan. They visited the relief camp at Muslim Madrasa Najiriya and distributed rice, sugar and pulses along with some financial help to the families affected by the flood.

Malesh said the Kiyamgei Muslim Oinam Loukon experienced extensive flooding after a long stretch of the embankment of Imphal River caved in a few days back. More than 200 houses were affected due to the deluge of flood water and the affected people who were shifted to relief camps are facing many grievances, he said.

He claimed that local MLA (Keirao AC) was not concerned about the worsening condition of the river bank and the people in the locality are undergoing multiple hardships due to his negligence.

He also criticised the Congress government stating that instead of approaching the people in order to look into their grievances, the party leaders are madly running after minister portfolios and contract work. The present adversity encountered by the villagers was avoidable if the government have the least concern to inspect the weak segments along the river bank and repair them at the right time, Malesh said. He further appealed to the state government to provide relief materials to the affected people of Kiyamgei.
