Cdl, CCpur paralysed by 48-hr shutdown

CHANDEL, May 17: Owing to the 48 hours total shutdown in tribal areas imposed by the JAC against “anti-tribal” Bills, normal life in Chandel district was greatly affected. Vehicular movement along the Imphal-Moreh section of National Highway 102 and Chandel District Headquarters road came to grinding halt as some volunteers blocked the Imphal- Moreh road at Lamkang Khunou village and Chandel District Headquarters road at Liwachangning village since early in the morning.

All shops and other business establishments in the district headquarters downed shutters.

Besides closing down of educational institutions and banks, government offices located in the District Headquarters also recorded low attendance due to the shutdown.

However, there is no report of any untoward incident during the shutdown till the filing of this report.

It may be mentioned that the Joint Action Committee (JAC) against Anti Tribal Bills imposed the 48 hours total shutdown in tribal areas of the State since midnight of May 16 in protest against the decision of the All Political Parties meeting to send a team to Delhi to pressurize the Central government to convert the three bills passed in the State Assembly on August 31, 2015 into act.

The 48 hours shutdown also paralysed normal life Churachandpur district as well. The shutdown was total in Lamka town and Tuibuang area.

However, shops and business establishments remained opened due to the diktat of KNO which opposed the call of the shutdown.

The 48 hours shutdown called in protest against the three anti-tribal bills was an effective one as compared to previous bandh and other impositions imposed in the district.
