IMPHAL, May 12: Results of the Higher Secondary Examination (HSE) 2016 conducted by the Council of Higher Secondary Education, Manipur (COHSEM) have been declared today and the pass percentage stands at 65.22.

Manipur-board-12th-result-2016Altogether 27,238 candidates were enrolled and 26934 candidates appeared the exam. Out of them 17566 cleared the exam. Pass percentage for Arts stream, Science stream and Commerce stream are 60.09, 67.11 and 58.25 respectively.
There is a gulf of difference in terms of pass percentage between Government colleges/higher secondary schools and non-Government colleges/higher secondary schools.
Whereas the first category of educational institutions recorded a dismal pass percentage of just 48.4, the second category scored 72.46 per cent.
Manipur-board-12th-result-2016Thoubal district scored the highest pass percentage at 86.27 with Churachandpur securing the second spot with 82.62 per cent. Ukhrul, Bishnupur and Senapati districts occupy the other end of the spectrum with pass percentages of 43.22, 46.61 and 48.53 respectively.
Tamenglong scored 67.92 per cent, Imphal West 67.55 per cent, Chandel 64.28 per cent and Imphal East 55.83 per cent.
Although this year’s pass percentage is a little higher than last year which recorded just 61.09, the pass percentage has declined alarmingly as compared to the last four years.
Higher Secondary exams of 2012, 2013 and 2014 recorded pass percentages of 82.86, 81.44 and 76.89 respectively.
Again the pass percentage looks pathetic if one compares it with the results of ISC Exam 2016 conducted by ICSE. This year’s ISC Exam recorded pass percentage of 96.46 per cent while last year’s CBSE Exam scored a pass percentage of 82.
Declaring the results of the HSE 2016 at the office of COHSEM at Babupara here this afternoon, Education Minister Dr Kh Ratankumar stated that the grading system followed from 2013 till this year would be replaced by ranking system which was in vogue earlier.
Highest mark scorers of each subject would be selected as well as those students who score 80 per cent marks and above, Dr Ratankumar added.
Notably, CCTV cameras were installed for the first time in 20 exam centres spread across nine districts during this year’s Higher Secondary Exam.
