IMPHAL, May 16 : The Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) has urged the all party delegation to act boldly and promptly in accordance with the public sentiment rather than resorting to any kind of delaying tactics.
A statement issued by JCILPS asked the all party delegation not to try to hoodwink the masses on the pretext of drafting a memorandum for submission to leaders of the Government of India.
It was the complete silence and inaction of the State for almost eight/nine months after the Protection of Manipur People Peoples Bill 2015, the Manipur Land Revenue and Land Reforms (7th Amendment) Bill 2015 and the Shops and Establishments (2nd Amendment) Bill 2015 were passed by the State Assembly that compelled the public to launch the renewed mass agitation.
Leaders of the Government as well all political parties active in Manipur should understand their immense responsibility towards addressing the deep rooted apprehension and insecurity felt by the people of Manipur.
JCILPS would not tolerate playing blame game among political parties or any tendency of shirking responsibilities at such a crucial juncture.
Reiterating that the three Bills are meant for collective welfare of all the indigenous people of the land, JCILPS asserted that it is prepared to take up all possible measures to protect all the indigenous peoples if necessary steps for safeguarding the indigenous people through the Constitution of India are not initiated at the earliest.
Continuing with the ongoing mass agitation, Imphal-Dimapur highway would be partially blocked from Chingmeirong to Awang Sekmai between 1 pm and 2 pm tomorrow where human chains would also be formed.
Similar agitation would be staged from Keishampat to Malom on May 18 and Khurai Lamlong to Kongba on May 19.
Roads would be partially blocked between 1 pm and 2 pm of May 20 at Keishampat, Wahengbam Leikai, Naga-mapal, Khoyathong, Thang- meiband and Chingmeirong, it added.
Meanwhile the All Manipur School Students’ Transporter Association (AMSSTA) has pledged support to the ongoing mass agitation of blocking roads partially.
Nonetheless, it appealed to all the concerned to relax the blockade for school vans (painted with yellow stickers) transporting students to and from their schools.
It was reported that a protest demonstration was staged at Nongdam Bazar by volunteers of Nongdam Meira Paibi Lup under the aegis of Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi Apunba Lup in support of the demand for conversion of the three Bills into Acts.
