IMPHAL, May 13: Sessions Court, Imphal West today continued recording ISTV Editor Brozendra Ningomba’s statement as a prosecution witness of CBI in the July 23 BT road case.
Brozendra was the Editor of ‘Hueiyen Lanpao’ when the infamous incident occurred in 2009.
Two other prosecution witnesses – ‘Naharolgi Thoudang’ staff Dayamoi and JNIMS hospital lab technician Basanta Kumar also deposed before the Court today.
Later, the Court fixed May 27 as the next date of hearing of the case.
On the other hand, suspended Head Constable Th Herojit failed to appear before the Court for the third time today.
However, all other cops who have been charge-sheeted by CBI in the case were present during today’s hearing.
Of the 220 prosecution witnesses submitted by CBI, 80 prosecution witnesses have deposed before the Court including Imphal West SP Dr AK Jhalajit, Sanjit’s mother Taratombi and Human Rights Alert director Babloo Loitongbam so far.
In January this year, Th Herojit had sensationally confessed that he killed Sanjit in a fake encounter.
The case was handed over to CBI after ‘Tehelka’ magazine published tell-tale photos of the incident.
CBI later submitted charge sheets against the nine police personnel of Imphal West district. The case was transferred from Sessions Court, Imphal West to Sessions Court, Imphal East on September 28, 2010 and the submission of prosecution witnesses started on January 5, 2012.
On November 23, 2014, the case was again transferred to Sessions Court, Imphal West.
