CHANDEL, May 25: The Kuki Students’ Organisation on Tuesday inspected government schools located at Cana and Molnoi areas of Chandel district.
The team led by KSO Chandel president Doumang Haokip also included executive members of the student body’s units. The team inspected Y. Thingkangphai Government High School, Khongtal/Kanan Primary School, Longja Primary School and Sajik Tampak Government High School in Canan Area under Chakpikarong Sub-Division.
During the inspection, the team found shortage of teaching staff in most government schools particularly at Y. Thingkangphai amd Sajik Tampak Government High School.
The team also found that due to shortage of classrooms, students of the lower sections of Sajik Tampak Government High School were accommodated at the nearby village community hall of Twilelon located about 500 meters far from the school.
The team also found that the school campus of Sajik Tampak Government High School, a Village Church of Twilelon lies well within the premises of 21 Assam Rifles post and was found sharing one gate manned by AR personnel.
And some buildings located adjacent to the main school building were occupied by the Assam Rifles despite shortage of classrooms.
Lhunthang Haokip, head master in charge of Sajik Tampak Government High School told the team that the school is facing a hardship due to shortage of teaching staff and school infrastructures including classrooms. At present, there are more than 300 students and only 8 teaching staff in the School, he said.
He continued after the concerned authorities were informed of the shortage of teachers, the department concerned had transferred four teachers to the school in February, but except for one the other teachers are yet to report to the school.
Speaking to media persons, Doumang Haokip said they have found many of the teachers not attending the school and not dispensing their duties properly.
He further appealed to the authorities concerned to look into the issue.
