IMPHAL, May 21: Students’ union of the Maharaj Bodhachandra College today locked down the college administrative block, academic block, main gate and boycotted the semester examination in the college protesting the failure of the authorities to look into their demand.

The students had set a three-day deadline to solve the issue of frequent flood in the college campus during the rainy season.

In a hurriedly called press conference at the college, general secretary of the union Dhanachandra Khaidem said the offices of the Education (U) director and the Education minister Dr K Ranjit will also be locked down if they fail to turn up to look into the issue within 24 hours.

The government apathy towards their plight led the students to lock the college, he added.

He said the union had on May 18 warned the authorities concerned to look into the frequent flooding in the college campus within three-days, however, the authorities concerned continue to neglect the demand.

We have made numerous appeals to former Education minister Moirangthem Okendro to solve the problem of flooding in the college campus. We have explained to him that the college is flooded even after a slight rainfall, he added.

However, the minister and the concerned authorities have all remained silent on the issue, he lamented.

Okendro had once assured that the college will be renovated with funds from the Rashtriya Uchchatar Siksha Abhiyan, but the promise has remain only in words, he deplored.

Maharaj Bodhachandra College has been facing the same problem of frequent flood for a long time. This has always hindered the students in attending classes during the rainy season, he added.

Sometimes the water seeps into the classes and other rooms. This is unfortunate, he added.
