PHED supplies potable water to flood affected areas of Tentha Khunou

THOUBAL, May 24: Officials and staff of the Public Health Engineering Department Thoubal today distributed potable water and other necessary chemicals like bleaching powder and chlorine tablets to flood affected people of Tentha Khunou.

Several houses in the area were affected when the river bank of Wangjing River breached at Tentha Khunou following heavy downpour in recent days.

PHED assistant engineer Narengbam Livingstone said the department has started providing potable water and chemicals like alum, bleaching powder, chlorine tablets and lime to relief camps open for the flood affected people in Tentha since yesterday.

The chemicals will help the people in treating water so as to disinfect the flood water from bacteria, he said.

Stating that the steps are being initiated under the watch of DC T Ranjit Singh and PHED Thoubal division executive engineer MA Samad, he said the department will continue to provide all possible help to the flood affected people.

Speaking to media persons, one of the affected villagers expressed gratitude to the PHED Thoubal and said due to the flood, people have been facing severe scarcity of drinking water.

He further appealed to the department to provide drinking water twice daily for atleast a week considering the plight of the affected people.

At the sametime, he lamented that the water supply scheme at Tentha Heibung has been lying non-functional since some years back.

Today’s potable water distribution was also participated by local Pradhan, clubs, organisations and WWSCs of Tentha Heibung.
