IMPHAL, May 11: The Mayang-Imphal Clubs Co-ordinating Committee has suspended its call of 36-hour bandh in Mayai Lambi from May 12 midnight against the killing of two Muslim youths by a mob over the alleged charges of vehicle theft at Sagaishabi, after the local MLA assured to launch judicial inquiry into the April 11 communal violence.
The committee has been demanding compensation for owners of the houses which were damaged in the communal violence on April 11, ex-gratia for those injured and judicial inquiry into the incident.
Talking to this daily, secretary of Mayang-Imphal Clubs Co-ordinating Committee Meinam Khelen said that representatives of the committee met MLA of Mayang-Imphal constituency Dr Kh Ratankumar who is also the Education and Transport Minister today at 11 am wherein the latter assured to institute judicial inquiry into the incident.
He informed that Deputy Commissioner Imphal West N Geoffrey was also present at the meeting.
Two persons including a woman amongst those who were injured in firing in the communal violence are treating in a hospital in Guwahati.
Speaking to IFP over the phone, president of the committee Sinam Mohen Singh who is assisting the treatment informed that the injured persons are Ngangom Maipakpi Devi, 56 wife of Mangi Singh of Mayang-Imphal Makha Leikai and Moirangthem Premkumar alias Kokngang, 34 of Konchak Mamang Leikai.
The two injured are treating at Midland Hospital, Guwahati. They have been operated today to remove the bullets stuck inside their bodies.
