IMPHAL, May 11: Normal life has been severely paralyzed in Tamenglong district as government offices in the district remained closed since April 28. At the same, all National Projects in the district

have also been banned from the same day.

The Joint Forum for Transport Welfare Tamenglong together with several frontals organisations of Tamenglong closed down all government offices and also imposed a banned on national projects in the district since midnight of April 28, 2016 in protest against the failure of the Government to restore the 39.5 km stretch of Tamenglong- Khongsang road.

Due to the shutdown of government offices in Tamenglong, general public especially student’s community have been facing untold suffering.

Students who come for tribe, domicile, income certificates and other relevant documents in the district headquarter after travelling long distance had to turn back in utter disappointment due to the shutdown.

The only lifeline of the district, have been lying in deplorable condition even though the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways MoRTH has approved a sum of Rs. 13,23,91,325 in the year 2012 for temporary restoration of Tamenglong- Khongsang.

All blacktopped layers of the roads have almost completely worn out creating several pot holes all along the stretch few metres apart.

The condition of the road is so pathetic that during rainy season the pot holes are filled with water, resembling small pools, said a transporter servicing along the route before maintaining that many lives have been claimed by the road.

Initially, the tender for temporary restoration of the road stretch was awarded to M/S Woodhill Infrastructure Ltd Tamenglong- Khongsang road and National Highways Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd. (NHIDCL) as sole Project Implementing Unit (PIU). However, no works was seen.

Subsequently, the transporter groups demanded the authority concerned to the BRO setting a deadline. However, with the failure of the authority to response in time the transporters body launched their agitation.

In the meantime, reliable source informed that M/S Woodhill Infrastructure Ltd has been terminated from the service for temporary restoration of Tamenglong- Khongsang road.

National Highways Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd. (NHIDCL) had issued fresh tendered notice inviting local contractor to execute the same work.
