Water breaches ‘danger level’, reaching ‘flood stage’ in Manipur rivers

The incessant rain over the last 24-hours in the state has created havoc in many places while various streets, roads and localities were inundated in most part of greater Imphal city.

Major rivers namely Nambul, Imphal, Thoubal and Iril have breached the danger level and inching upward to “flood stage”, according to Flood Control & Irrigation Department, Sanjenthong.

Flood MoirangAt least 200 buildings including Police and Fire Service stations at Moirang in Bishnupur districts were under water, and school authorities have announced holiday as the water level at the area has been increasing.

A bailey bridge built over Iril River which connects Noney and Nungtek has been broken by water current on Wednesday.

According to report, around Rs 10 worth corps in various farm houses at different parts of the state were under water.

Meanwhile, ICAR Lamphelpat has predicted rainfall from 10mm to 38mm in the state till May 20.
