Zeliangrong bodies endorse UNC 48 hrs total shutdown in tribal areas

IMPHAL, May 13: The Zelianrong Students Union (ZSU) Tamenglong District under the aegis of Zeliangrong Students’ Manipur (ZSM) and Zeliangrong Youth Front (ZYF) on Friday announced to support the propose total shutdown in tribal areas of Manipur which will commence from the midnight of May 16.

Appealing all general public of Tamenglong, especially all school communities and students to cooperate to safe guard the land and resources, Riamei Joseph, coordinator ZSU has said that the total shutdown will be strictly monitored in Tamenglong district headquarters.

He also warned all the tribal people to be careful of any sinister design of the “communal” government of Manipur.

In the meantime, the ZYF also announced to support the 48 hrs total shutdown proposed by the Naga United Council (UNC) Manipur.

In a statement issued by Ramgaisinang Gonmei, general secretary of ZYF Tamenglong Zone and David Kamei, vice-president of ZYF said that it will wholeheartedly support the shutdown.

The statement further mentioned that the valley people previous had launched various forms of agitations for a month and a half on ILP issue wherein S. Robinhood, a student of Ananda Higher Secondary school Imphal was killed in police action.

Robinhood was hit by a rubber bullet fired by police and later succumbed to his injuries, it said.

Unfortunately, in Churachandpur the Manipur police commandos used live bullets to suppress a public protest erupted after the passing of the bills killing nine people, it lamented.

255 days have passed since the incident taken place, the bodies of these 9 tribal martyrs are still lying unburied at the Churachandpur District Hospital Morgue, it said.

It appealed all the general public, individuals, shopkeepers, vegetable vendors, vehicles owners, all business establishments and educational institutions, respect the bandh.

Any violators of the shutdown shall be taking their own risks and shall be considered as being Anti-Naga and Anti-Tribal, the statement added.
