IMPHAL, Jun 12: It has been detected that some LPG distributors have been selling off LPG refills on road side after taking them down from trucks directly.
A source in IOC’s Imphal Divisional Retail Sales Office informed that according to rule consumers should take LPG refills only from the godowns of distributors.
This particular rule was framed to ensure immediate intervention in case of explosion of any LPG refill cylinder.
Nonetheless, for the convenience of consumers distributors are allowed to distribute refills at their branch offices and delivery points although this practice defies rules.
Distribution of LPG refills at delivery points is practised in some other Northeastern States including Assam and Meghalaya.
But distribution of LPG refills on road sides directly from trucks is not permissible at all.
If a distributor is found distributing LPG refills on road sides from trucks, the particular distributor can be served show cause notice. This can be followed by major or minor monetary penalty, said the source.
Meanwhile, Social Welfare Organisation Thoubal said that Manipur Thoubal Gas was found distributing LPG refills on road sides from trucks in total contravention of IOC’s guidelines and rules.
The Social Welfare Organisation has also lodged a complaint to the concerned authority.
The complaint letter asked the concerned authority to direct Manipur Thoubal Gas Agency, Thoubal to distribute LPG refills only at their authorised godowns, not on road sides.
