IMPHAL, Jun 26 : Sustaining the popular movement for enacting a legislation for protection of indigenous people of the land from incessant influx, protest demonstrations were staged today along two routes.
Human chains were formed and sit-in-protests were staged between Singjamei bridge and Kongba bridge through Khongman Mangjil and between Wangkhei Thambalkhong and Naharup Awang Leikai Thonkhong.
A team of JCILPS led by its convenor in-charge BK Moirangcha held short meetings with the protesters at the protest sites.
The protesters stood in rows and shouted slogans in unison like “Enforce ILPS in Manipur”, “A new Bill should be passed in place of PMP Bill”, “State Government should translate all the points it agreed with JCILPS”, “We condemn declaration of Kh Ratan as a wanted man”, “Declaration of Kh Ratan as a wanted man cannot suppress the popular movement” etc.
Notably, the ongoing phase of the mass movement started on June 23 and it would continue till June 28.
It has been already announced that similar protest demonstrations would be staged between Bamon Leikai (Basketball Ground), Khongman, Bashikhong, Singjamei Chingamakha and Liwa Lambi tomorrow.
On the other hand, another protest demonstration was staged today at Wangoo Laipham Chuthek Leikai New Bazar demanding introduction of a new Bill in place of PMP Bill 2015 in the next session of the Manipur Legislative Assembly.
