IMPHAL, Jun 11: Sangaikot Sub-Divisional Office located within Singhat Assembly constituency in Churachandpur district became functional only yesterday although the same office was inaugurated by Chief Minister O Ibobi and Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam on April 24 last year.
With a view to take the State administration to the farthest corners of the State, mini-secretariats were constructed at all district head- quarters followed by construction of Sub-Divisional Offices together with staff quarters.
Sangaikot SDO office was constructed as a part of this initiative.
After the SDO office was activated yesterday, Health Minister D Korungthang, MPCC president TN Haokip and Singhat AC MLA GS Haopu formally commissioned the office today.
Although the office has many shortages and shortfalls, the office has been somehow activated by stationing one SDO and some staff.
Nonetheless, Revenue Department has plans to assign adequate number of staff to the office.
Although the SDO has been equipped with two computer sets for the State Government’s e-governance programme, the office has no power connection.
Altogether 12 Type-III quarters have been constructed for the SDO office. Out of them, seven quarters are located within the SDO office complex and local people are looking after them.
As such, it would take sometime before the SDO office becomes full functional.
Speaking as chief guest at a gathering today which marked formal functionalization of the SDO office, Health and Family Welfare Minister D Korungthang underscored the importance of using time judiciously in constructive activities.
But bandhs and blockades have become a way of life in the State, he decried.
Students who are future pillars of the nation should focus their time and energy on studies but they are being utilized as frontrunners of public agitation.
The twin scourges of illiteracy and poverty should be tackled first if Manipur should be made a progressive State, Korungthang asserted.
Responding to an appeal of the Chiefs’ Association Sangaikot to open a Primary Health Centre at Sangaikot, Korungthang stated that the Government has initiated due process to open PHC’s, PHSC’s and CHC’s at different places of the State where they are needed the most.
Once this process is completed, a health centre may be opened at Sangaikot.
MLA GS Haopu presided the function which was organised by the Kuki Students’ Organisation (KSO), Sangaikot.
GS Haopu said that the SDO office would be an asset of the people of Sangaikot.
Plans are also afoot to open a PHC at Sangaikot apart from repairing the Churachandpur-Sugnu road.
Later, meritorious students of Sangaikot who came out with flying colours in the class X and class XII examinations conducted by CBSE, BOSEM and COHSEM were also felicitated.
