Jiribam, Dec 11 : Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari today laid foundation stones for construction of Makru and Barak bridge along NH-37.
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, who reached Jiribam by a helicopter, was accompanied by BJP MP Prahlad Singh Patel, BJP Manipur State president Ksh Bhabananda Singh and Manipur Chief Secretary O Nabakishore. They were welcomed by Jiribam DC Harmit Singh Pahuja, Jiribam SP Hopson Sapam and leaders of BJP, Jiribam at Jiribam Higher Secondary School playground.
Prior to the foundation laying ceremony, a public meeting was held at the playground of Jiribam Higher Secondary School.
Speaking at the meeting, Nitin Gadkari stated that Jiribam will soon have proper road and railway connectivity and added that Jiribam will begin to march towards sustainable development.
“The Government of India under Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been putting all possible effort to improve road and railway connectivity in the North East region. Though Congress party, while in power at the Centre, could not do anything for the people of the North East region, BJP-led Central Government has been taking up various developmental works for the people,” Nitin Gadkari said.
After the completion of Makru and Barak bridge, Jiribam will have the best National Highway in the State, he said and added that BJP’s aim while initiating the construction work of Makru and Barak bridge is to provide employment opportunities to local contractors and unemployed youth.
He further maintained that the authority concerned has been informed of the need to expedite the construction work. As such, local people should also extend co-operation to make the project successful.
