Ukhrul, Mar 10 : BJP candidate Sword Vashum from 45-Chingai Assembly Constituency who was forcibly stopped from visiting three polling stations 45/4 Chingjaroi CV, 45/6 Chingjaroi Khullen and 45/7 Chingjaroi Khullen (B), has questioned how one can say that polling is free and fair this time.
Security personnel were sitting idle not performing their duty, Sword Vashum and his supporters alleged.
According to BJP workers, the road that led to the polling stations were blocked by burning logs in the middle of the road since yesterday. They also alleged that yesterday BJP and Congress workers were beaten black and blue and the workers had to be rushed to the hospital.
The BJP workers said that a written complaint has been lodged with the the DEO, Ukhrul against the PRO and the security measures and arrangements taken up. In a separate incident at Ukhrul AC in 44/32 Kaziphung polling station, cameras were found not installed and the same were installed only after 9 am.
In a similar ugly incident, media persons were also barred from entering polling station 44/52 Mapum by the village volunteers stationed at the village gate, stating that to ensure peaceful election no outsiders would be permitted entry to the village today.
Altogether 9 polling stations (43/52 Aishi from Phungyar, 44/32, 44/52 Kaziphung and Mapum and 45/4- Chingjaroi CV, 45/6 Chingjaroi Khullen A, 45/7- Chingjaroi Khullen, 45/30 Paoyi A and Paoyi B ) went for repoll today.
Some of the EVMs have already arrived at the strong room of Ukhrul mini secretariat office complex.
