IMPHAL, Mar 19: Democratic Students’ Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) has warned all political parties against endorsing the successful independent candidate of Jiribam A/C, Asaab Uddin and has demanded every party concerned to find out the true identity of the candidate first.
At a public meeting organised at Ibudhou Khamlangba community hall at Sagolband Moirang Leirak, DESAM demanded the State Government to find a solution to the issue at the earliest and warned that until and unless the authority concerned is able to identify the ethnicity of the candidate, he cannot represent the people of Jiribam.

The students’ body said that no one other than the ethnic people of the State can contest election adding that the right should be reserved only for the ethnic people.

It further pointed out that a special Constitutional provision should be arranged in the Indian Constitution in order to save the indigenous people of Manipur if the Indian Constitution feels it necessary for non indigenous people not to get involved in the administration of the State.
DESAM stressed the importance of making arrangements to identify the indigenous and the non indigenous people adding that experts should collaborate with all the political parties of the State regarding the sensitive yet pressing matter.

MU Professor, N Sanaton, former president of AMUCO, KT Rahaman, social activist M Sonamani, Th Bokulchand (MEELAL president), former general secretary of HERICOUN, Islam Makakmayum, CIRCA convenor Samarendra Thokchom, SSUM publicity secretary W Tanoranjan and leaders of many other organisations took part in the meeting.
