IMPHAL: Handing over cases related to irregularities in accounts of Manipur Development Society (MDS) to the CBI and revival of Manipur State Transport were among a slew of resolutions adopted by the state cabinet.
The cabinet meeting convened Friday decided to restructure MDS, launch probe to expose financial anomalies, and resume service by MST fleets to facilitate economical, efficient, sustainable, affordable and coordinated transport system.
Interestingly, former CM Ibobi was chairman of MDS. Though modalities to re-launch the public transport system will be worked out shortly, the cabinet endorsed proposals that MST
should be under the administration of the Transport Department in the initial phase. It is said that the arrangement will subsequently involve participation by private operators under the banner of MST.
The MST service will resume on 14 routes to connect the state capital with Churachandpur,
Pherzawl, Bishnupur, Jiribam, Noney, Tamenglong, Kangpokpi, Senapati, Ukhrul, Kamjong, Thoubal, Kakching, Chandel and Tengnoupal districts.
Noting sharp increase in the number of vehicles and human population contrary to congested and constricted roads and parking spaces mainly in the valley districts, the cabinet also decided to create one post each of SP (Traffic) and Addl SP (Traffic) to streamline the traffic system in Imphal area.
Moreover, traffic police would be posted and attached with all other district SPs. On complaints about spurt in cyber-crimes, mainly in social networking sites and SMS through mobile phones, the cabinet decided to create a special post of DSP to supervise investigation process, involving immediately retrieving of e-mail, websites, chats database, etc., to conform to the prescribed procedure for its admissibility in court.
The Cabinet also deliberated on regularisation of payment of enhanced scale of salary to teachers having requisite qualification and decided to withdraw earlier cancellation order (6/9/2016) issued by the Education Department (S).
Considering growing importance and relevance of renewable energy sector, solar energy in
particular, the Cabinet decided to provide subsidy of Rs 10,000 per KW for installation of grid
connected rooftop solar power plants. The amount of state capital subsidy however will be limited to a maximum of 2 KW or Rs 20,000 per beneficiary.
