The vehicle lifter identified as Nameirakpam Babu (46) s/o (L) Matum of Wangoi Laiphrakpam Leikai and the recovered stolen vehicles were exhibited before media persons at the office of SP Imphal East at Porompat.
Speaking to media persons, SP Imphal East K Kabib said that acting on complaints from the public regarding missing and lifting of their vehicles from their localities and other places, a special team of Imphal East district police was constituted under the supervision of SDPO Porompat police station, Mayengbam Roni along with other subordinate officers of the district police.
He elaborated that the team launched an extensive search for the stolen vehicles in which Babu was arrested which was followed by recovery of seven stolen vehicles including five Honda Activa scooters, one Pulsar motorbike and one TVS Excel moped.
He said that concerned owners of the recovered vehicles may claim and take back their vehicles from the police station by following necessary formalities.
Assuring that the district police will carry out raid and search operation in suspected places, the police officer cautioned that appropriate action will be taken up against those workshops which accept stolen vehicles.
He maintained that the district police carried out raid in two different locations few days back during which five drug peddlers were arrested along with the seizure of Heroin Number 4. He appealed to the public to support police in such initiatives.
Imphal East district police is looking forward for community policing and detail discussion to strengthen the relationship between police and public, he added.
The SP also informed that strong instruction has been given to all the police personnel of the district to presume themselves as public while they are in police uniform.
