IMPHAL, Apr 2: Manipur Administration Housing and Urban Development (MAHUD) Minister, Thounaojam Shyamkumar Singh inspected Khwairamband Keithel and its surrounding areas today.
The Minister also inquired about the repairing work of the Ima Keithel building, which was damaged in the Jan 4, 2016 earthquake.
The Minister inspected the temporary market shed, the three Ima markets, BT Park and its surrounding areas.
After inspecting the temporary market shed, Shyamkumar said that an arrangement will be soon made for the street vendors so that they can sell their products peacefully.
He said, “The street vendors can be relocated near the Nambul river area, opposite to the stretch of Nagamapal. The parking space at the temporary market shed can be removed to accommodate the street vendors. A policy will be made in consultation with the departments concerned for the vendors soon”.
Shyamkumar assured that within a span of a month, not a single waste material would be seen littered at all the market areas under Imphal Municipal Council (IMC), including Lamlong Keithel, Kwakeithel Keithel and Kongba Keithel.
“A person can even lose his/her shop license in case of absence of dustbins in their respective shops”, he warned.
The Minister appealed to the vendors, shopkeepers and the citizens of the State to cooperate in maintaining the cleanliness of the city.
Speaking on the parking issue and double parking in the busy market areas, Shyamkumar assured that things will be streamlined within a week’s time and necessary action will be taken up subsequently.
On the other hand, vendors and shopkeepers also shared their grievances to the Minister.
Shyamkumar was accompanied by Parliamentary Secretary (Home) L Susindro Meitei, Mayor of IMC, OSD Solid Waste Management and other officials.
