Commemoration of 73rd Anniversary of the Battle of Imphal (WWII) at the Imphal War Cemetery and Maidam Lotpa Ching, the Japan War Memorial Complex, Nambol under Bishnupur District on May 21, 2017, jointly organised by World War II Imphal Campaign Foundation and Manipur Tourism Forum (MTF) in association with Commonwealth War Grave Commission (CWGC).
N Biren Singh, Chief Minister of Manipur; C Apok Jamir, Parliamentary Secretary of Nagaland; Kenji Hiramatsu, Ambassador of Japan to India and Akiko MacDonald, Chairperson of Burma Campaign Society, London attended the commemoration function as the main dignitaries.
The observation also witnessed the attendance of Sunichi Inove, Political Section, Embassy of Japan; Kenji (Col), Japanese Police, Embassy of India and Gaurav Rai, Country Manager of Common-Wealth War Grave Commission (CWGC).
Floral tribute at the Imphal War cemetery was paid by Embassy of Japan, Kenji (Col), Japanese Police, Embassy of India, Gaurav Rai, Country Manager of Common-Wealth War Grave Commission (CWGC), C Apok Jamir, Parliamentary Secretary of Nagaland, members of WW2 Imphal Campaign Foundation (ICF) and Manipur Tourism Forum to the grave of the fallen soldiers of World War 2.
Total of 41 dignitaries from Japan including the Ambassador of Japan to India have arrived in the state to attend the commemoration function.
During a reception function at Hotel Grande, Kenji Hiramatsu, Ambassador of Japan to India felicitated the members of WW2 Imphal Campaign Foundation, Manipur Tourism Forum, Indo-Japan Friendship Association and Battle of Kohima along with certificate and mementos.
