Police-public coordination spelt out Suspect listed in Chandel dist twin deaths

IMPHAL, May 7: A woman suspected to be involved in the death of a man and a woman and whose bodies were found at Moltinchan and Khumjang village under Sugnu police station in Chandel district has been picked up. Talking to The Sangai Express DGP LM Khaute said that the woman suspect has been picked up for questioning, but refused to divulge details.
The DGP however made it clear that the suspect has not been officially arrested and explained that she has just been listed as a suspect.

The SP of Chandel police also said that no official arrest has been made in connection with the death of the two persons and added that some suspects have been listed.
The man and woman were found dead at the said places on May 5 and were identified as Nengneikim alias Shila Haokip (woman) of New Molbem village, Chandel district and Seikhokai Len Tuboi of New Keithelmanbi.

The twin killings had evoked strong protest from the local people who went ahead and formed a JAC against the killings and blocked the Imphal-Moreh road prompting additional deployment of police to thwart any untoward incident.

To pacify the enraged people, IFCD Minister Letpao Haokip met members of the JAC formed in connection with the death of the two persons and struck an agreement with them to end their agitation on May 6.

On the other hand, DGP LM Khaute said that interactive sessions between police and public have been launched at district and police station levels with a view to build a cordial relationship between the two. As part of the 100 days’ programme announced by the Government recently, a cyber crime police station would be opened at CID Crime Branch and it would investigate all cases related to cyber crimes. A slew of measures has also been taken up to enable police deal with cyber crimes effectively, facilitate quality investigation, enhance submission of charge-sheets and improve the overall law and order situation of the State, informed the DGP. Police have also taken up additional security measures for protection of highways.

Moreover, Manipur Police Department has been paying extra attention toward controlling abuse of intoxicating substances. Police have been carrying out special drives against abuse of intoxicating substances and it would go on, said Khaute.
