assam rifles banana plantationImphal, June 1 :  19 Assam Rifles under the aegis of Headquarter IGAR (South) is located at Sehlon, Chandel district, Manipur is taking up various welfare programme for villagers at far flung area. The Samtal Salient which is blessed with plethora of natural resources is an ideal region for cultivation of commercial agricultural products.
To exploit this unventured thread of livelihood for the local populace, Sehlon Batallion of Assam Rifles organised a one day workshop on cultivation of banana and king chilli in collaboration with Agricultural training and Management (ATMA), Imphal on at Tuitong village this week.
The aim of the workshop was to impart knowledge to the villagers about cultivation of Banana and king chilli (U-MOROK) which has a high commercial value in open markets of valley. The workshop was attended by villagers of Tuitong, Gamnom,
Kovang, Wayang, Gelmol and Moljol. Various techniques and procedures of harvesting as well as marketing their products were explained to villagers. Attendees took keen interest in the lecture cum demonstration given by the members of ATMA, Imphal and clarified various doubts regarding harvesting span and usage of pesticides etc. At the end of the lecture villagers were hosted with a quick lunch and refreshments.
Assam Rifles statement said that the villagers were extremely happy with the various initiatives undertaken by Sehlon Batallion to empower them socially and economically by amalgamating them in the inclusive growth of the nation. Deputy Commandant of 19 Assam Rifles felicitated Mr Katrimayun Manikhamba, Block Technology Manager of ATMA, Imphal for their selfless guidance and participation in a noble cause.
