IMPHAL: Continuing the drive against drugs and addictive substances, Imphal East district police commandos seized tobacco and related products worth more than Rs 15 lakh even as Bishnupur district police recovered Rs 1.20 lakh worth banned to-bacco goods. Informing media persons about the drive, SP (IE) K Kabib said tobacco and re-lated products worth more than Rs 15 lakh were seized during raids conducted Thursday at different parts of the district.

According to Kabib, a police team led by DSP (Ops) Robinson and commando OC inspector B Lunthang Vaiphei under the supervi-sion of additional SP (L/O) Wungpam Kasar first raided a warehouse located at Hatta Telipati around 7.30am and recovered huge tobacco and related products. Another raid conducted by the same police team at a warehouse in Mantripukhri at about 12.10 pm also yielded success, he said adding that two men have been arrested during these raids.

The arrested men are identified as Md Riyazuddin (23) son of Md Zuhuruddin of Urup Awang Leikai and Md Muhit Khan (32) son of Ibot-ombi of Sora Makha Leikai. The SP also informed the media that the seized tobacco products along with the arrested two men have been handed over to Food Safety and Standard Enforcement Wing, Imphal East for necessary legal procedures.

Kabib further said that the district police observed Meeyamgi Nupit on Thursday and around 20 complaints were record­ed.

On the other hand, Bishnupur District Police seized tobacco items worth Rs 1,20,000 from Bishnupur Bazar during a special drive on June 13.

The seized items included 50 packets of Sadaar-905 Zarda; 15 packets of Baba-120 Zarda and 68 pieces of Baba-120 Zarda; 11 packets of Balmiki Zarda; 36 packets of Saveraa-1221 Zarda; 115 packets of Nevla Zarda; 122 packets of Musaka Gul Zarda; 24 packets of 350 Signal Zarda (big packets); 5 packets of 350 Signal Zarda (small packets); 102 packets of Baba Black Zarda and 1 box of Baba Black Zarda; 106 dozens of Sajan and Sanam; 18 small bottles of Kimam; 12 packets of Raja Khaini; 12 packets of T-5 chewable tobacco; 15 packets of Miko nutrition cereal weighing 25 gm each; 226 pieces of Chetak Spit Tobacco; 3 packets of Newla Khaini containing 24 pieces; 24 pieces of Nevla Zarda weighing 70 gm each piece; 31 pieces of Golden Khaini; 44 pieces of 160 Zarda packets weighing 0.45 gm; 6 packets of 160 Baba Zarda weighing 10 gm each; 7 packets of 160 Baba Zarda containing 62 pieces; and 10 packets of Miko nutrition cereal containing 30 piec­es, informed a release of PRO Manipur Police Department.

The seized items will be disposed jointly by Bishnupur Distrct Police and Food Safety team of Health Department, it added.
