Imphal, September 14 2017: Even though establishment of Anti-Corruption Cell (ACC) deserves commendation, people have now started realising who is more corrupt, stated ex-Chief Minister and Opposition leader Okram Ibobi .
He was speaking at a district level political workers’ conference held today at Churachandpur Peace Ground under the aegis of the Churachandpur District Congress Committee .
People know which one is more corrupt between the previous Government and the incumbent Government .
“Whether it is MDS or PWD or any other department, I would accept any punishment given as per law if I’m found involved in misappropriating money from the State’s exchequer”, Ibobi said .
Stating that it would be wrong to project Congress party as a political party which has been rejected in hill areas, Ibobi asked whether BJP could match Congress party’s tally of nine seats out of 20 Assembly segments located in the hill districts .
Guided by narrow communal outlook, some people have been opposing creation of new districts which was done for administrative convenience .
“The objections and disturbances are not directed against Congress party.
Yet, I was not afraid of the objections targeted at Ibobi-led Government.
It was done not in support of any community.
Neither was it taking away one community’s land and giving it to another.
What must be done would be done boldly”, Ibobi asserted .
Public service is not restricted to ruling parties.
Sitting on Opposition bench is also public service .
If the Congress was able to secure two or three seats more, it would have formed another Government.
Nonetheless, Congress party would take the role of a responsible Opposition party and Congress party would never be swayed or intimidated by the ruling parties’ propaganda, Ibobi continued .
Ahead of the 11th Manipur Legislative Assembly election, BJP promised to bring back black money stashed in foreign banks and Rs 15 lakh each would be deposited in the banks account of each citizen.
Now people can judge whether BJP has fulfilled their election promises or not .
The forceful demonetisation move dealt a severe blow to the country’s poor masses.
Rather than creating jobs, it proved to be destructive, added the CM .
Referring to the economic packages of several crores announced by Chief Minister N Biren for Churachandpur and Pherzawl districts, Ibobi asked whether any proposal has been sent and what is the current status of the economic packages .
While welcoming the economic packages announced by the Government, Ibobi asked how would the Government make the packages materialise or whether the necessary funds have been earmarked in the State’s budget or whether the packages would be granted by the Central Government .
Asking whether there is any sanction order for the packages announced by different Union Ministers in the run up to the State Assembly election, the ex-Chief Minister questioned the BJP’s repeated claim about its concern for Manipur .
Recalling the assurance of different Union Cabinet Ministers to set up a medical college at Churachandpur, Ibobi asked whether any such proposal has been sent to the Medical Council of India (MCI) .
The Congress Government had already initiated due process to set up a medical college and a private university at Churachandpur.
The previous Cabinet adopted a decision to upgrade the capacity of Churachandpur district hospital to 200 beds, Ibobi stated .
Ex-Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam said that the many development and projects implemented by the Congress Government in 15 years across the hills and valley of the State can never be undermined .
The six-months old Government’s tall claims of having executed a number of projects can never be compared with what was done by the Congress Government.
It would be like the rear wheels running before the front wheels of a vehicle”, Gaikhangam said.
Even though BJP did not win much seats, it somehow formed Government using crooked means .
One cannot be knowledgeable or a master without learning.
There are signs of misgovernance and they need to learn more, Gaikhangam said .
MPCC president TN Haokip said that the BJP-led Central Government would collapse under the weight of its own lies and empty rhetoric .
Recalling about BJP’s promise to accomplish within 15 months what Congress could not in 15 years, TN Haokip said, “The BJP-led Government has completed six months and let’s see what it accomplish in the remaining nine months.”
MP Thangso Baite and MLA Dr Chaltonlien Amo too spoke at the gathering.
