Kangpokpi | January 06, 2018(DIPR): Cooperation and Social Welfare Minister Smt. Nemcha Kipgen expressed that the hill districts and far flung areas of the state which still remain untouched with the ray of development can be transform through proper and effective implementation of cooperation in Manipur.
This was stated by the Minister during the visit to Kholep in Kangpokpi District for a site inspection for constructing multipurpose work shed cum training hall and hostel for handloom and handicraft centre in Kholep through Integrated Cooperative Development Project (ICDP)which is under National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC).
With an aim to make Kholep as a model village for promotion of handloom, Minister Nemcha is hopeful that once this multipurpose work shed are completed, many people specially widows, orphans and destitute would be hugely benefitted from it. It will generate employment as well as income and market for the local weavers and artisans. The centre will likely cover weavers and artisans from more than 30-40 villages in and around Kangpokpi district. Not just in this district, there is a plan to further extend such centre to other districts of the state too as there should be inclusive development in every nook and corners of the state, she asserted.
Cooperation Minister urged that only when people become financially independent and stands on their own feet, there will be development in all spheres. As per the information given by the locals, presently more than 50 women are engaged in handloom and handicrafts related work and also market their products to other parts of the country.
It may be mentioned that the scheme of Integrated Cooperative Development Project (I.C.D.P.) was introduced for development of district through Cooperative efforts in the area of agriculture and allied sectors like Fishery, Poultry, Handloom, Rural Industries, Livestock, Consumers, to name some. The Concept of ICDP envisage selection of an area on district, formulation of activities and Programme in an Integrated manner based on the resources of the area and the needs of the people and development of those activities through Cooperatives.
The site inspection was accompanied by the officials of the cooperation department.
