Imphal, Jan. 16: Thounaojam Shyamkumar, Minister of Municipal Administration, Housing and Urban Development (MAHUD) and Town Planning today strongly condemned the twin blasts that rocked the Imphal city yesterday evening. A woman sweeper of the Imphal Municipal Corporation (IMC) was injured in the blast.
Yenshembam Sobita Devi, 50 years, wife of Y. Ingo from Langthabal Mantrikhong Awang Lekai suffered minor injury and was admitted at the Raj Medicity. On Monday, the first blast took place inside M Sector Defence PRO Office complex adjacent to the southern side of the Johnstone Higher Secondary School while the second blast took place along the roadside of the school.
Speaking to the media persons at his residential quarter at Kangla Park, Minister Th. Shyamkumar said planting and exploding the bomb at a public place is a cowardly act. Urging those responsible to come forward for clarification, the Minister made an appeal not to repeat such act in the future which is detrimental to the development of the State.
To ensure the safety of the public, he said additional CCTV cameras working 24X7 will be installed in the Imphal city by the MAHUD department in consultation with the Chief Minister. He ensured that the cameras will be installed within this month. Stating that the department under him will work in collaboration with the State Police, he appealed for cooperation from the general public.
He said it is unfortunate that the blasts took place at the time when the MAHUD department and IMC are wholeheartedly working to make the city clean. Minister Shyamkumar also said that the MAHUD Department will bear all the medical expenses of the IMC sweeper who was injured in the blast while doing her duty along the Kangla road.
Later, MAHUD Minister met the injured IMC sweeper, Yenshembam Sobita Devi, at the Raj Medicity, North AOC, Imphal. Giving monetary aid to the injured woman, Th. Shyamkumar once again reiterated and assured that all the medical expenses incurred during the treatment of Y. Sobita Devi will be bored by the MAHUD department.
