Dissident Congress MLAs support Trinamool: Kim Gangte

IMPHAL, Feb 9: Asserting that the Congress Party of the state is on the verse of rupture, the president of Manipur Pradesh Trinamool Congress, Kim Gangte has disclosed that many sitting MLAs of the Congress Party who are mostly dissidents render moral supports to the Trinamool Congress in the forthcoming bye-election of Konthoujam assembly constituency.
Kim stated this during a political meeting of Trinamool candidate K. Sharat held today at Kangmong Maisnam Leikai.
The state Trinamool president further maintained the Congress Party has breached the people’s trust during its nine years’ misrule in the state, and so there will be no keen contest amongst the politicians to grab the Congress ticket unlike the previous terms.
She said that the people of the state have become disgruntled under the Congress rule which has brought nothing except for underdevelopment and rampant corruption.
The wrong policies of the state government have given much suffering to the people. The problem of acute shortage of essential commodities and subsequent price rise has added miseries to the people, she noted.
It is the failure of the Congress led SPF government that has created so many problems and issues in the state. The Chief Minister is all concerned with the recruitment of police personnel and nothing else. Even the people of Thoubal have grudges against him for not working in the true spirit of a leader representing them, Kim asserted.
She also stated that the hill-valley division in the state arises not from some social or cultural factors but from the development policies of the government. The underdevelopment in hill areas has compelled the hill people to depart from their fellow brothers and sisters in the valley.
The chasm between the hill and valley people can be narrowed down only when there is equitable development in both hill and valley areas. However, the present Congress government has neglected such issues and devoted most of its time and labour in chalking out plans to siphon off more money from development funds and projects, Kim added.
Further, she raised questions to the Congress leaders if they care for the people of Manipur or not. Not a single Congress leader had visited Manipur during the economic blockade which has caused intense sufferings to the people. The Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram had not visited the state at that time, even though he came to Mizoram.
The Congress Party has indeed discriminated the people of Manipur and so the right time has come to oust the Congress Party which firmly believes in family politics rather than the welfare of the whole people, she averred.
Meanwhile, a team of leaders of All India Trinamool Congress comprising of Union Minister of State for Shipping and Road Transportation, Mukul Roy, Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, Dinesh Trivedi, and Rajya Sabha MP KD Singh will arrive Imphal on February 11 for election campaigning of the forthcoming bye-election of Konthoujam assembly constituency scheduled on February 14.
