IMPHAL Aug 30: All Manipur Students Union (AMSU), Democratic Students Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) and Kangliepak Students Association (KSA) have decided to launch stern agitations if the state government fails to implement the Inner Line permit system in the state within a definite time frame.
This was announced during a joint press conference held today at AMSU head office located at DM College Campus, Imphal.
Citing the private member’s resolution raised by MLA N. Mangi in connection with ILP system during the assembly session on August 26 which was subsequently withdrawn by house after deliberate discussion, the student bodies accused that such inaction of the government to unanimously pass the resolution is due to lack of responsive governance in the state.
Demographically and economically Surging in the numbers of migrant populations in the state is seriously pushing the indigenous populace to a matter grave concern, stated M. Angamba, general secretary of DESAM while addressing the media persons.
He added that according to the census report of 2001, the rate of migrant population had exceed that of the native population and the similar report of 2011 has further confirmed the situation that has called for serious introspection.
Citing a statement of the present Chief minister that the influx of migrant population in the state is of no concerned and the subsequent implementation of ILP system in the state might purportedly inflict adverse implications to student communities who are pursuing for various study courses in other state of the country, the student bodies condemned the government and resented that such statement of the CM is not called for from a responsible authority.
On the other hand, the general secretary of AMSU, N. Dipanjit while condemning the government decried that the government is deliberately sidelining the issue, although, they had made several repeated appeals to the government prior to the monsoon assembly session to pass a resolution to implement ILP system in the state.
Later during the conference, the student bodies cautioned the government that if the present government continues to be adamant in this issue, the student bodies will go against the wishes of the government to manned potential transit points in every places of the state to check the influx of migrants in parallel with the actions taken up in Mehgalaya and Mizoram by its respective student bodies such as Garo Student’s Union, Khasi Student organization and Mizoram Zoul Paul.
