IMPHAL, August 31: Just one day after family members and friends of a woman stormed the JNIMS after the death of the woman in a delivery related case, patient party of another woman who had a stillborn baby at the RIMS stormed the Gynaecology ward of the hospital today.
However, the furious crowd was controlled and pacified by the timely arrival of a Lamphel police team led by OC Ingocha this evening around 6pm.
The patient has been identified as Mayengbam ongbi Nganbi, 29 wife of Kiran of Singjamei Mayengbam Leikai.
According to the patient party, the woman had been admitted at the hospital some five days back on August 27 for her first delivery case and examined by Doctor Pritam.
The patient parties also informed that the doctor had told them that it was a normal case and had announced August 29 as the due date for delivery. After the patient complained of stomach ache last night, the doctors were called.
They further claimed that as Doctor Pritam arrived at 11pm for his routine check and expressed that there are some complications as the heartbeat of the child is not normal and as such there was a need of a Caesarean section operation.
However since the doctors who had come check her before during the night had not said anything, the patient had already had her dinner and so the operation had to be delayed by some two three hours.
The operation was done at around 4am when the child was stillborn.
The doctors further informed that the mother’s condition was also critical and that she had to be kept in the ICU, however later on she was found inside the general Gynae ward, a family member said.
Following the incident, the furious family members erupted.
Blaming that the incident happened because of the lack of communication between the doctors, family members urged the concerned authorities to take action against the erring doctors at the earliest.
Meanwhile, the RIMS Superintendent, Dr Shantikumar came and met with the family members.
