IMPHAL, September 12 : It is the security forces of India in connivance with the state commando personnel and those trying to tarnish the image of the revoluntionary movement, who are responsible for almost all the threats and intimidations faced by the media fraternity and the general population in the state, a statement issued by the United National Liberation Front, UNLF said.
The undergound outift was reacting to the speeches made by the state Governor, Gurbachand Jagat and state Chief Minister, Okram Obobi earlier during the anniversary observation of the Sangai Express.
It further went on to list a series of events where the security forces had gone above the law including the killing of Rabina and Sanjit at BT road on July 23, 2009. Due to fear of reprisal from the state forces, the local journalist could not even publish the photographs locally and send it to an outside news agency, Tehelka, it said.
It also pointed out that when the Commission set up to find the facts wanted to take statements from the Tehelka representative, none of them were able to come to Imphal due to fear of attacks by the security personnel.
It also reminded the Oinam village incident, the disappearance of SDC N Surendra and others related events and stories where the security forces had acted above the law and against all norms and against all that has been claimed.
