IMPHAL, September 18: The Meitei Traditional Dance Teaching School and Performing Centre observed its 20th year foundation day celebration at the Rupmahal Theatre today.
The observation was attended by eminent writer and retd professor MU, Padmashree RK Jhalajit, MPCC, secretary Jotin Waikhom, ex-president Manipur Sahitya Parishad, B Jayentakumar Sharma as the president and guests of honour, respectively.
Padmashree Jhaljit inaugurated the observation by lighting the inaugural candle.
A one minute silence was also observed as a mark of respect for the departed gurus and artiste of the state.
Naorem Birahari College Principal, Ng Ekashini in her key-note address said the school was founded under the leadership of Guru JN Dance Academy E Indira Devi.
She continued the school has 40 students of different art forms at present.
The two and half year’s basic course covers three primary courses graded as A, B and C for six months each.
Students are graded further more according to their character, discipline and the maintenance of their physical fitness, she said.
“Manipur is identified by its culture and sportspersons in the world arena and the establishment of such a school to develop the talents of the young students is laudable”, said B Jayentakumar.
He also expressed his wish for the school to observe its foundation day on a much larger scale from next year.
Meanwhile, in an act of encouragement for the school students, toppers were also awarded during the function.
Meanwhile, students and MTPTS & PC also performed a Diva Raas in the evening as part of the observation.
