Mapping Manipur Project is an initiative jointly undertaken by Google Inc, India and KENs-Manipur (Knowledge Exchange Networks) team with the intention of setting up a platform where community users can contribute and built local area maps using Google Mapmaker tool. This event is organized as a part of Google’s MapUp event. The event has also been endorsed by ‘North American Manipur Association (NAMA)’ and ‘European Manipuri Association (EMA)’.
Googlemap is a very powerful and well known tool used in several countries around the world to find directions and point of interest on the maps. Increasingly due to the need of updating new information and non-availability of correct information of remote locations google started an initiative to empower users to have the ability to contribute to Google maps ,informations regarding local community and towns by launching a new tool called Google Mapmaker. This tool enables any user with a G mail account to sign in and contribute information like road, bridge, business information, hospitals, locality and other point of interest into Google maps and once the information is approved it will turn up Google search , google maps and mobile search.
