Manipur is at the top of medal tally on the second day of the biggest sporting extravaganza of the North Eastern India – the North-East Games, 2013 today with 42 medals. The 27th edition of the Games is hosted by Manipur Youth Affairs and Sports Department under the aegis of the Panchayat Yuva Krida Aur Khel Abhiyan (PYKKA) scheme at Imphal.
In the North-East Games at Imphal, the host state Manipur has so far bagged 42 medals- 22 gold, 14 silver and six bronze medals. Assam is at the second place with 30 medals -eight gold, eight silver and 14 bronze medals. Mizoram is at the third place with 19 medals – five gold, six silver and eight bronze medals. Nagaland has so far won 11 medals – four gold, four silver and three bronze medals. Arunachal Pradesh has won 18 medals – three gold, three silver and twelve bronze medals. In women’s 10,000 metre race today, S. Premila Devi of Manipur bagged gold medal while Mangli Tamang of Sikkim won silver and Suchitra Devi of Tripura won bronze medal. In men’s sotput, Pratin Deka of Assam won gold medal while H. Noren of Manipur and S. S. Meezi of Mizoram won silver and bronze medals respectively.
