CCPUR, December 30: State deputy Chief Minister, Gaikhangam attended the Gangte People’s Award ceremony organized today by the Huihchim Media Foundation, and distributed awards to winners at Community Hall, Chiengkonpang, Churachandpur.
Besides the dy CM, Vungzagin Valte, Parliamentary Secretary (Horti & Sc), Manipur attended as president, Langkhanpau Guite, ADC chairman, Churachandpur as guest of honor alongwith various VIPs, prominent social leaders and dignitaries also attended the ceremony.
Speaking on the occasion, Gaikhangam said that Gangtes are talented folks who have made rapid progress in all fields.
He said that being with the Gangte community/people is like a home coming.
Lamka town has developed leaps and bound and is today only next to the state capital, he said while adding that at this rate “the town will be a major challenge to Imphal on the development front.”
In his address while re-unveiling of the renovated memorial stone of Late Demkhosiek Gangte (Gangte Pasalpha), the Dy CM revealed that Late Demkhosiek Gangte was a man of integrity whose vision was not confine to only the Gangte community.
The chief guest also praised the young guns of Gangte for starting the new magazine called ‘Huihchiim’ which will be a big step to educate the Gangte society.
Though the Gangte community does not have a big population, it has one of the highest literacy rate amongst communities in terms of population ratio, said the guest of honour, Vungzagin Valte.
He said that the Gangte leader Demkhosei was a versatile and a true leader of the Zosuan (Zo descendent).
He also said that the Gangte are a humorous and easy going people.
The functional president, L Guite said that the magazine launched by the youth of Gangte.
This will go a long way in transforming the mind-set of the community and added that he will be always grateful to help the editorial board in any capacity.
Meanwhile, the Best Singer (male) Award was received by Pcl Thuoma; Best Singer (female) Award was received by Tracy Ngaihching.
Goukhosiem Gangte received the best Veteran Singer Award, while, Soizalal Thongjom bagged the Best Writer Award.
Boithang Gangte received the Best sports person of the year; Best Album-Saichang pastored choir. Best lyrics,L Thiembawi. Lifetime achievement award, Dr Gin Gangte. Outstanding Person of the Year, Dr David Gangte. Personality of the year, Lienkhopao Thangjom .
Jennifer Kimnuntluangi and Sangboi K Gangte with academic score of 88% and 93% were feted for being the highest rank Gangte students in class X and XII respectively.
