IMPHAL, May 2: Local meira paibis, club members and family members of an alleged victim of the extra judicial killing organised a sit in protest at the Aounba Naharol Yaipha Thousil Kanglup at Thangmeiband Thingel decrying the “extra judicial killing” of March 20, 2010 incident.
The protestors decried that on March 20, 2010 under the command of the then Lt general Dalbir of 3 corps who is now the vice army chief, an intelligence unit of the Dimapur based 3 corps had killed three individuals namely Ph Naobi, RK Roshan and Prem.
Regarding the incident, family members of Ph Naobi had filed a case in the court chargin the General Officer responsible for the controversial incident.
The hearing of the case has been fixed on May 5 at the High Court of Manipur.
Yesterday’s protest saw people holding placards which read, “We don’t want killing without Justice,” “Justice for Phijam Naobi’s cold blooded murder,” “Manipuri are also Human Beings not Animals.”
Meanwhile, locals of Uripok Yambem Leikai had also staged a sit in protest yesterday decrying the placing of a hand grenade at the residence of an engineer of the locality.
Locals found a Chinese made hand-grenade from near the residential gate of a close relative of the chief minister identified as executive engineer, Primary Health and Engineering Department Hijam Ibotombi yesterday morning around 7.30.
Ibotombi is said to be the father of chief minister Okram Ibobi Singh’s daughter in law.
Soon after the grenade was found, a gypsy of the Imphal West commando arrived and picked up the hand grenade and took it away around 7.45am. K Meghachandra Additional SP Operation Imphal west and P Sanjoy officer in charge Imphal arrived at the spot and inspected the site.
Later in the afternoon, locals staged a sit in protest at Uripok Yambem Leikai Leirak Machin decrying the placing of the grenade at the residential gate of EE PHED H Ibotombi.
Speaking to the media persons one of the ‘Meira Paibi’ leaders said that they strongly condemn the incident and appeal not to repeat such threats and further sought clarification from all concerned.
