IMPHAL, May 2: A commando unit of District police, Thoubal conducted frisking at Tangjeng area, ThoubaJ District April 30 last, said a press release issued by PRO of the Police Department, Manipur.
During the frisking and checking operation, Md Amir Hassan, 20, son of (L) Md Jahurddin of Ushoipokpi Makha, LiJong, an active worker of KCP (Noyon) was arrested, it said.
Further according to the statement, on his revelation, two foreign made hand grenades, seven live rounds of M-16 ammunition and two live rounds of .38 ammunitions were seized along with two mobile handsets, it said.
In the follow up investigation, a van driver, who transported the seized items, Md Aslam Khan, 25, son of (L) Md Serjuddin of Borayangbi Makha Leikai was also arrested from the Moirangkhom van parking along with his van bearing regd No ASO I U-I088, it said. Investigations further revealed that they are working for the KCP (Noyon) and were involved in serving extortion letters to government offices, Tata Winger Association, Bus service association, etc., informed the statement.
A case has been registered at Thoubal Police Station and further investigation is going on.
Meanwhile, the troops of 30 Assam Rifles of 9 Sector AR under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South) launched an operation in the general area of Lamlai, Imphal East district and apprehended one KYKL on May 2, 2014, said a PRO IGAR (s) press release.
The release further identified the arrested as Shakil Ahmed, 26, son of Naziruddin, resident of Sora Awang Leikai, of Imphal East district.
A 9 mm pistol with three live rounds was recovered from his possession, it said and added that both the arrested and the recovered items have been handed over to Lamlai Police Station.
