IMPHAL, Feb 14: A man suspected to be suffering from Japanese encephalitis died this morning at around 10:10 at Shija hospitals.
According to information received by IFP, the deceased has been identified as Naorem Sharat Singh, 37, son of N Kala Chand Singh, a resident of Khongman Zone-III in Imphal East.
By profession he was a mason. He breathed his last at Shija Hospitals & Research Institute (SHRI), Langol. He was shifted from RIMS to SHRI yesterday afternoon only.
He had been undergoing treatment at RIMS for the last around 10 days. As the doctors at RIMS could not identify his sickness, his health condition deteriorated and had to be shifted at SHRI.
Doctors at Shija hospitals tired to diagnosis his illness by conducting various tests, however before even starting any kind of treatment he died of his illness as it was too late.
It may be mentioned here that even though many new private hospitals have come up in the state besides government hospitals like RIMS and JNIMS, there is still no laboratory to test Japanese encephalitis.
The blood samples are sent to laboratories outside the State to do the testing and the result arrives only after 28 days which is quite alarming for the State.
