IMPHAL, Nov 5: The sleepy town of Tamenglong wake up to the loud booms and scintillating display of fireworks and lights during the Diwali Celebrations by 11 Assam Rifles. All ranks of the battalion celebrated the festival with the people of Tameglong at the Football ground. The Commandant called on the people to come forward on the occasion of festival of lights and dispel the darkness. Sweets and crackers were distributed by Mrs Rachna Chhonkar to the children.
A release of PRO IGAR (S) stated that besides the brilliant display of fireworks and lights, the town also witnessed an enthralling musical display from the budding musicians and a Hindi cultural programme by the students of Tamenglong. Music has always been and still remains and integral part of the social fabric of Manipur. Identifying the significance of same, the unit imparted training on musical instruments to thirty two students of Tamenglong. Similarly, It was felt that, the local children when step out of Manipur either for higher studies or for better career options face a tough time due to unfamiliarity with the Hindi language. Hence, education on basic Hindi was imparted to hundred and eight students of Tamenglong.Subsequently as a follow up, a lecture on career opportunities in the Army and a display on the theme know your Army has also been planned for the students of Tamenglong.
