IMPHAL, Aug 17: Acknowledging the active participation of the people in the ongoing mass movement demanding introduction of Inner Line Permit System or any similar law to safeguard the indigenous people from the incessant influx of non-locals into the State, the Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) accused the government of failure to take a decisive stand on the legitimate collective demand despite taking much time.
A statement signed by assistant media coordinator of JCILPS Md Kheiruddin Shah Moijingmayum pointed out that the government is still not showing enough political will to pass a new bill acceptable to all sections of the people even as the committee recently submitted a memorandum mentioning legally accepted points to be included in the proposed draft bill.
It is the sole responsibility of the government to protect the territorial integrity of the State from any external threat and its indigenous people from the alarming influx of outsiders. The small State of Manipur cannot be made a safe haven for non-locals who are entering the State only for their benefits, it stated.
Some vested agents are trying to create animosity amongst the people regarding the ongoing mass movement, the statement claimed, calling upon the people to carry forward the movement without any fear and pressure for the sake of the indigenous people.
Informing that the two-hour road block stir launched in different places in pursuance of the demand ended today, it appealed to the people to take out mass rallies from tomorrow and submit memorandum each to the respective MLAs to ask them to contribute their parts in drafting the proposed bill including the five points unanimously adopted during a public convention held recently.
The committee in its statement also appealed to storm government offices democratically and shout slogans to meet the collective demand.
