AMWJU decries assault on scribes

IMPHAL, Dec 5: The All Manipur Working Journalists’ Union (AMWJU) strongly condemned the brutal assault on West Bengal based journalists, Prasenjit Saha and Kalyan Mondal.

According to a release of the union, Dainik Jugasankha’s journalist, Prasenjit Saha and another Journalist Kalyan Mondal were brutally assaulted by some local goons on Friday morning when they went to collect news in south 24 Paragana’s under Basanti police station at Baria village, West Bengal.

Over and above severe beating, their mobile phones and cameras were snatched. They were kept captive until police force from Basanti PS rescued them. The injured journalists later filed a police report in the police station, it said.

So far the police have arrested four people allegedly involved in the attacked, according to the statement.

AMWJU appealed to all to prevent such incident from recurring in future as it amounts to infringe upon the freedom of the Press.
