BISHNUPUR, December 5: A condolence meeting cum handing over of financial donation function was organized by Bishnupur District VDF Welfare Association at Kiyamba Ningshing Shanglen, Bishnupur today in honour of two VDF personnel from Bishnupur Ward No 2, who died following brief illnesses.
The two VDF personnel have been identified as Md Saphiula (VDF No 1247) and Md Noor Khan (VDF No 500). They were posted at Bishnupur Chiningkhul VDF Post.
Additional SP Bishnupur T Meghachandra, secretary of Senior Citizens for Society Prof L Sadananda, Dr Ambedkar Fellowship awardee N Shanta, ex-Pramukh of Bishnupur CD Block Ch Kullabidhu Singh, president of All Manipur VDF Guardians Association Ch Kamalkanta and president of All Manipur VDF Welfare Association L Devan attended the function as chief guest, president and guests of honour respectively.
Speaking on the occasion, Meghachandra said that VDF personnel have been discharging their duties like the Manipur Police but with much lower monthly salaries.
He assured that pressure will be exerted on the government to ensure that the VDF gets equal benefits as enjoyed by other security forces in the State.
Along with observing a one-minute silence as a mark of respect to the departed souls, a financial assistance of Rs 1 lakh was handed over each to the families of the two deceased VDF personnel during the function.
